Hero Award Winner - July 2003
WEBNETWORK.com

Todd and Susan Walker owners of WEBNETWORK.com
receive the SCORE Hero award from member Phil Ohringer
- Both Susan and her husband Todd had been working for an ISP company that declared bankruptcy in 1996. A dozen or so clients, who had given deposits on future ISP work, were left holding the bag. Susan, Todd and another web designer decided to form a company to complete the work for those clients, and only charged those clients the balance that was due on the job. The business officially started in1997 with a family loan of $4000.
- To bring in a steady salary, Todd took a full time job, but did web page design for WEBNETWORK.com in the evening. Susan also had another job and worked part time at the company.
- In 1998 Susan became full time at WEBNETWORK.com and Todd became full time in 2000. Todd runs the technical end of the business and Susan the sales, marketing and finance.
- Aside from a bookkeeper, all of the hires work on project specific jobs and are sub-contractors. The dynamic structure is analogous to the construction industry where a General Contractor subs out a major portion of the work and may do some of the work themselves.
- In 2002 there were 10 part time people working on WEBNETWORK.com projects…. most of who were subcontractors. Using the subcontract dollars as a guide, the equivalent number of FTE’s in the company last year would have been five (5) including Susan and Todd. The company anticipates a significant increase in 2003 based on pending contracts.
- Susan has presented at Score’s E-Business seminar for the past 2 years, and created and presented SBDC’s E-Commerce Seminar at Edmonds Community College. She was presented with the SCORE Partnership award at the SCORE/SBA Small Business Awards Banquet in May.
